Pittsburgh Father's Day Events

Are you spending this Sunday with your Dad?  Here is a list of activities that will leave any Dad with a Father's Day they will never forget!

First held in 1910, Father's Day is a celebration of fatherhood and male parenting. It was created thanks to the effort of Sonora Smart Dodd (1882-1978), whose father was a Civil War veteran.

Kids are welcome to join the staff from "The Saturday Light Brigade" to make a personalized audio CD that can be decorated and affixed to a card for a gift that dad can cherish for a lifetime.

"The Saturday Light Brigade" is a family-friendly show broadcast weekly on six college radio stations as well a community access TV channel in Pittsburgh

Celebrate Father's Day this year by making sure Dad is healthy and fit by bringing him to this health fair.

He will learn how to manage and prevent chronic disease and live a better, healthier lifestyle. There will also be screenings for issues such as cholesterol and blood pressure.

 Carrie Furnaces Hard Hat Father's Day Tour

Bring dad to discover the whole steel-making process --- from the ore yard where raw materials were stored, to the cast house, where red hot molten metal spewed from the furnace --- in this fascinating tour into the region's past.

A key part of the Rivers Of Steel National Heritage Area, the Carrie is a derelict former blast furnace located along the Monongahela River that formed a part of the Homestead Steel Works.

The city's nomadic indie craft marketplace pops up at the historic Carrie Furnace for a special Father's Day event with a variety of handcrafted goods including natural bath and body products, greeting cards, clothing, costumes, letterpress artwork, photography, house wares, woodwork, handbags, jewelry, ceramics, children's items and so much more.

Hard Hat Tour tickets for this historic site will be available at the market with 10% off with an I Made It! Market purchase. And, find local food trucks so you can stay and explore longer.

Celebrate Father's Day with this annual fundraiser along the city's North Shore.

The event includes a 10K course, 5K course and a 1 mile fun walk.

A symbol of Pittsburgh's river renaissance, the Gateway Clipper Fleet has grown from a single ship in 1958 to five boats that can carry up to 2,000 passengers.

Visitors join members of local U.S. veteran and military groups to help fold a giant 36-foot American flag in the center's Great Hall.

Along with folding the massive American flag, participants sing a stirring rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner". There will also be a Father's Day and special flag retirement ceremony.

All U.S. veterans and current servicemen and women will receive free admission to the History Center. Additionally, all visitors can enjoy special docent-led tours of the "Stars & Stripes" exhibit which details the stories of the people behind the more than 200 year history of American flag's history. Jimmy Beaumont & The Skyliners

 

The local pop legends perform a special Father's Day concert of classic rock songs dating to the 1950s featuring great beats and rich harmonies.

Spend Father's Day weekend playing the area's finest golf course in a day filled with fun, memories and charity.

Each player will receive a round of golf at one of the area's finest golf courses, a delectable lunch and dinner, tee shirts, golf balls and many great prizes. Following golf, there will be an award ceremony emceed by Vince Sims of WPXI, in which prizes will be given to the top three teams (as well as a consolation prize for last place) and raffle prizes will be given throughout the event.

Proceeds benefit the Noah Angelici Hope Foundation, which supports research towards the diagnoses, treatment and education of a disease of the placenta called Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome.
